The guid, the bad and the doonright ugly.

Has been some time since I blogged on SHOE. So much has happened.
Sports wise, I have finally achieved one of my goals. I've been selected to represent my country at disabled athletics!! I had a good first ever season winning a total of 7 golds and one silver at various sports, including Shotputt, Discus, Javelin, Club and Badminton. All as wheelchair sports. So I'm really pleased with myself. I've also been offered a place in the regional swim team, so hope to do well there too. Must work on my cardio / lung fitness first I think!!
I usd sport initially as a way to fend off the depression of becoming disabled. Little did I know, not only would it help me thru it, but also allow me to help others and make me a better person in the end.
Becoming disabled changes the priorities in life, for the better I say. Life is too short to put things off and compain......just get out there and face the demons, >:-> as long as you're strong, they wont win in the end anyway!!!

I got a new wheelchair, thank goodness. The car I got, was delivered minus hoist and the wait for funding (partial) to enable me to have a wheelchair accessible vehicle is 18 months!!! So it was cheaper and easier to get a new chair that I could load and unload easier. Still means dismantling it and passing it over my clothes and steering wheel (getting muddy after long dog walks!!). Anyway, this chair being new to me..I expected a few bumps an bruises, I ended up coming out of it 6 times in the past 2 weeks. Mind you, seems that the paralysis has affected my balance control slightly hence the falls. So I hope to see physio's soon and work on how to compensate for that loss.

Hamish is doing great!!! He is fully qualified now, and has recovered fully from his operation earlier this year. So he is back to full fitness and enjoying 4 mile runs with me in the chair on most days in an effort to get us both in training.

Apart from that really, not much has changed. Oh, I have met a couple of lesbian couples locally too, that is fantastic news. I was beginning to fear I was the only lezzie in this area. So hope to be able to get out with them for a few beers some night, and slowly work up to finding myself a partner. Need to build the confidence in that dept up tho. It's been 7 long years and a disability since my last GF. I am still finding it hard to belive anyone would be interested in me sexually with the chair and the "other" bits!!!! Mind you, I'm not too much of a sexually driven gal, so you never know, Ms Right may be out there somewhere. I'll just have to get out there and look fir masell!!

On that note, time to go put yet another load of washing on. Stupidly shoved my pillows and blanket in the machine this morning, forgot to switch on, so now have to get everything washed and dried before bed, or it'll be a cold night with no pillows!!!
